Douglas has represented clients in patent matters related to high-speed network routers and switches, e-commerce systems, infrared imaging, and manufacturing systems, among others.
Douglas has handled more the twenty-four (24) post grant review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, leading to success at both institution and on Final Written Decision. For instance, in RPX Corporation et al v. Parity Networks, LLC (PTAB-IPR2018-00099), as lead counsel, Douglas obtained a final written decision finding all of the claims of the challenged patent as not unpatentable.
In Travelocity.com LP v. Cronos Technologies LLC (CBM2014-00082), Douglas obtained a non-institution of a Covered Business Method Review against an early e-commerce patent that had been litigated against multiple top e-commerce companies. Douglas successfully defended the patent in a subsequent Covered Business Method Review by the same party (CBM2015-00047) and in an appeal to the PTAB during an ex parte reexamination (90/013,591).
Douglas has also worked with multiple patent owners to compose their patent portfolio development and enforcement strategy. In working with these patent owners, Douglas has helped obtain significant licensing agreements both in the context of litigation and without litigation. Douglas has worked with his clients as the lead negotiator for patent licenses with many of the top Fortune 500 companies.
Douglas began his career as a litigator at Alston & Bird LLP before joining Fish & Richardson P.C. Douglas later helped found the patent litigation department at Henninger Garrison Davis, LLC, where he represented patent owners in over sixteen different district courts across the United States.
Douglas has a background in theoretical mathematics and software development. Prior to law school, he worked as a C and JAVA developer on UNIX systems in the telecommunications industry.
