James has successfully represented patent owners in cases involving a variety of patented technologies before district courts and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

James has represented clients in patent infringement and licensing cases involving Wi-Fi location, machine learning, semiconductor packaging, Universal Serial Bus, high-speed telecommunications, haptic feedback, and other technologies.

In Invensas v. Renesas (D. Del.), an action for infringement of Invensas’s semiconductor design patents, James successfully argued dispositive claim construction issues and took and defended infringement and damages witness depositions on behalf of Invensas.  The case settled favorably shortly after the deposition of Renesas’s technical expert witness, during which James obtained numerous admissions undermining Renesas’s invalidity and non-infringement defenses.

James has also achieved outstanding results when representing patent owners in more than twenty proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.  In a majority of those proceedings, the Board has denied institution with respect to patent claims that were actively asserted in district court litigation.

James graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was the Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology.  He also received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin.  Prior to law school, he worked on hardware development and testing at Advanced Micro Devices.
